He has spearheaded financial services businesses across continents. Tarun has lived across countries in Asia Pacific, Middle East, Africa and the UK. worked in 6 countries primarily with Citibank and HSBC. At HSBC he was an International Manager (IM), HSBCโs elite cadre of global leaders making up only 0.10% of its workforce globally.
- Led zero-to-one efforts, led established business at scale, grown teams from scratch and created market leading businesses internationally. Brings a rare combination of strategic insight and ability to execute in a diverse range of situations and complexities.
- Tarun is Co-Founder and Co-Chair India Startup Festival (ISF). ISF is the largest of its kind empowering entrepreneurs and fostering a robust start-up and scaleup ecosystem. Over 10,000 start-ups and stakeholders participated from 13 countries in 2023.
- He is the longest serving Committee member and former Deputy Chairman of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry Asian Business Association. He is at the forefront of supporting businesses in the UK, India and other countries.
- Tarun is a Strategic Advisory Committee Member, Global Cyber Alliance with United Nations ECOSOC Special Consultative Status. This entails working internationally to help in eradicating cyber risk and improving our connected world.
- He is a former board member of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE), UK. As part of TiE, the worldโs largest non-profit that fosters entrepreneurship, Tarun has supported businesses across sectors.
- Currently the President and CEO, Squared Watermelon Ltd. facilitating and creating solutions for the Next Generation of inheritors and creators of wealth.
- He launched the 21st Century Icon Awards, building a global brand from scratch. The Awards celebrate success of the Next Generation. In their 7th year, the Awards are highly acclaimed covered by media in over 80 countries with finalists/winners attending from 44 countries to date.
- As Group President and CEO, Bramer Corporation Ltd, Mauritius, provided leadership to the Presidents and CEOs including 2000 colleagues for a listed bank, Insurance, Asset Management and other entities. Was Non Executive Vice Chairman and Chairman Credit Committee of the bank. Ensured market leading position for the Insurance company and the bank became fastest growing in Mauritius.
- He managed assets in excess of USD 2.4 billion as CEO, UTI International Ltd. Led country managers in Dubai, Bahrain and the CEO, Singapore. He raised circa USD 700 millions of new money for various UTI funds. He has launched and led asset/wealth management and private banking businesses in the UK, India, Thailand, Singapore, Qatar, Bahrain, Dubai, Mauritius and Kenya.
- At ING, he was responsible for private clients in UK, Europe, Africa and the Indian sub-continent.
- As Head of HSBC Premier, UK, he managed assets of around USD 40 billion making over USD 900 millions of income. Led 850 Premier Managers across 1600 branches, implementing and embedding transformational change to create a market leader.
- As Head of HSBC International Personal Banking, UK, he ensured a seamless proposition across countries for international customers. Also appointed to the HSBC Global Customer Group Management Committee. Worked collaboratively with HSBC CEOs internationally to develop customer driven strategies, consistent culture behaviours, policies and operational processes.
- Tarun was responsible for 15 countries across Asia Pacific as Operations Manager International, HSBC Hong Kong. He ensured their profitable functioning through implementation of Annual Operating Plans in line with the overall Strategic plan. He launched retail banking, credit cards and SME businesses across Asia Pacific. Tarun was involved in the USD 33 billion merger of Marine Midland Bank USA into HSBC Bank USA.
- Tarun managed Credit & Risk for 14 countries in Asia Pacific, including Japan as Credit Manager International, HSBC Hong Kong. Credit proposals ranged from aircraft leasing and financing (Emirates, China Eastern, Qantas etc), structured deals like Tokyo Disneyland, and vanilla credit proposals going into billions of dollars.
- As Country Manager Personal Financial Services and Credit Cards, HSBC Qatar, motivated around 350 colleagues to achieve net profit more than the combined HSBC businesses in Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan and Oman.
- As Senior Vice President, HSBC Thailand, he led the business development for the bank.
- Tarun worked in HSBC, India, leading the Financial Institutions Group (FIG) business for Eastern India, Bangladesh and Nepal, managing institutional relationships. He then managed the credit operations for the Commercial and Corporate bank in Eastern India. He moved to lead HSBC's Retail bank in North India.
- Tarun spent 5 years with Citibank, India. As Head of Business Development, distribution reach was enhanced to create a market leader in Consumer banking. Subsequently, was Head of Collections Non-Performing customers. Opened two subsidiaries as Head of Projects.
- Tarun has assisted in several M&A transactions, which include the USD 142 million stake of T Rowe Price in UTI Asset Management. He has run several start-ups, outsourced extensively, created strategic alliances, partnerships. built distribution networks, set up and led sales teams internationally.
- He sits on several regulated boards and advises several entities in the UK. He has sat on over 40 boards in Singapore, Guernsey, Mauritius, Botswana, Kenya and the UK. Managed Risk across continents and has been regulated across jurisdictions.
- Tarun holds an MBA. He also holds an M. Com (Business Administration), Post Graduate Diploma in International Trade, Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing & Advertising.
